Diwali celebrations cannot be authentic without the serving of specific types of food during this auspicious occasion. Diwali is the festival of lights, fireworks and especially, ethnic sweets! On Diwali, there is a custom to exchange sweets with friends, family and neighbours.

Here is the recipe to make an edible Gulkand peda which contains a Khoya filling. It is a delightful food that can be made with children in the kitchen for Diwali. It is one of the most popular sweet dish on diwali as well as in Birthday of Lord Krishna i.e. Mathura.

Ingredients: To make Gulkand Peda some of the known & popular ingredients need to stock first that are given below:

Half Soft khoya
Two Bowls of powdered sugar
Little bit Cardamom powder
One tbsp Semi crushed cardamom seeds
4-5 Fresh pista
Rose Extract (i.e. Gulkand)
2 tbsp Grated Almonds

How to make Gulkand Peda:

First of all put a pan with a heavy bottom on a low flame gas and put gulkand into it. Now swirl the gulkand slowly-slowly and make a soft lump. When the lump process gets completed then take off the pan from the flame and leave it aside to cool.

Now in second phase mix the powdered sugar and grated Khoya very well. Again take a pan and put this mixture on high flame for a few minutes. After 2 minutes slow down the flame and stir mixture continuously.  Now put cardamom powder into mixture then allow to cool the mixture and keep stirring it occasionally.

In last step, take a small portion of this mixture on your palm and flatten it and then place a very small amount of the gulkand mixture in the center of the flattened piece. Now roll gently so that gulkand gets covered by the mixture and press the roll slightly like a biscuit.

Decorate the rolls with  pista, almonds and cardamom seeds. Let the rolls cool down. Now Gulkand Peda is ready to enjoy. Serve  to your guests, family members, neighbours and friends and celebrate your depawali with lots of happiness.
